Having seen Everest close up and personal from Tibet in 2010 (having cycled) one can't help but feel in awe in it's presence - to be able to share that experience this time by trekking in with Monika is nothing short of amazing with some character building and "relationship challenging"moments likely to be found along the way !
The 21 day trek from Jiri pretty much follows the original Hillary Everest route to base camp and will give us the opportunity to experience Nepalese village life before we take on the more arduous altitude based trekking routes.
I've watched with pride as Monika has prepared for the past few months trying to find time from her busy work regime to get fit. She knows it will be tough but also knows that the experience will be life "value adding" as it's all too easy to stay in that comfortable lounge chair! The fact that she is doing this also for two great causes will make those challenging moments all worthwhile !

Wow - it's only a few days before I head off on what should be an amazing "out of my comfort zone" adventure through some of the best scenery the world has to offer !
I have to admit I'm the most unlikely of adventurers @ age 50+ and not much of an "outdoorsy" person - but I do have a helpful streak of stubbornness so when anyone reckons I can't do something it's a great motivator for me to prove them wrong as I did in 2011 when I cycled over 2,000 kms from one end of the UK to the other in aid of Parkinsons disease research !
This time my motivators come in the form of two great causes 1) Berwick Chase Primary School who are trying to fund an important lifesaving device (onsite defibrillator) and 2) Kids Help Line that provide a fantastic free counselling service for young people aged 5-25!
http://www.kidshelp.com.au/
My supportive team at Westpac Eden Rise reckon I'm mad for doing this (a little bit certainly helps) but I'm sure they'll also be cheering me along !
You can help me to make it through the "enduring moments" sure to come, by contributing a few dollars - either by pledging or contacting your local Westpac bank ! In the meantime watch this space as I try and keep you updated throughout the journey !
