Amazingly our next 3-4 kms were almost flat providing fine views back down the valley. Taking one bend we came across an unexpected jaw dropping view - a section of the Himalayan range of snow capped mountains including Everest in the distance - Monika's first ever view !
Not surprisingly the view point was situated right next to a tea house so along with other trekkers we took a cuppa and sat down to take in the breathtaking views !
Finally under way again we descended back down to the valley floor to lunch at Ringmu in the sunny conditions - Monika though was struggling with significant pain in her feet caused by her boots
Lunch was memorable in that Monika came up close and personal with a yak or two that had escaped their yak train - you sure don't want to mess with their pointy horns !
The other funny event was the sight of an obviously hungry Nepali who calmly sat down at Monika's table while she was lying down resting as if he was at a 5 star restaurant helping himself to the
leftovers from Monika's lunch then washing it down with Monika's unfinished lemonade with her unaware !
It was a steep climb to a 3,000 meter pass after lunch - the total we will climb by the time we reach Namache is a staggering 9,000 metres !
The descent to our accommodation at Nhuntella was an absolute nightmare on a terrible path - razor edged rocks mixed with mud and yak dung made the path incredibly treacherous and slowed us down so much that Monika and our guide Deepak again arrived in the dark followed closely by one of the English trekkers a professor at Edinburgh Uni who is making a habit of taking an alcoholic drink or two on top of every pass he crosses !
Monika was pretty shattered on arrival and in tears with her feet causing her extreme pain something we'll have to look into if she is to continue
Michael -
Well Monster trucks eat your heart out - this would have been a tough path even for you guys !
The views of the Himalayas and Everest were amazing and unexpected giving our trek a real sense of purpose !
Am more than a little worried about Monika's ability to keep it up
Monika -
Wow my first view of Everest it was amazing to take in the mountain range of snow capped mountains
Found myself in tears a few times today as my boots are give me grief on descent because of the pressure on my feet - will have to sparingly use then with my runners if I'm to continue
